Useful for your trip

Timing
Climb during the two dry seasons: January to March or June to October. Avoid rainy season as it is wet, cold, and unpleasant.
Tip
Climb slowly ('Pole, pole' in Swahili). The longer you take, the higher your percentage of making it to the summit. Only around 65% of trekkers reach Uhuru Peak.
Save money
Bring an extra $300-400 USD for tipping porters, chefs, and guides. Their effort is essential for reaching the summit.
Tip
Stay hydrated and eat regularly to combat altitude sickness. The expedition provides meals throughout the trek.
Transport
Park entrance requires check-in and fee payment. Porters' bags are weighed at the gate with a legal limit around 30 kg (60 pounds).
Where to stay
Tents are spacious and luxurious. Camp facilities include hot water for washing provided at the end of each day.
Tip
The trek passes through four distinct ecological zones: Rainforest (7,000-9,000 ft), Moorland (10,000 ft), Heather (13,000 ft), and Alpine Desert (15,000 ft).
Timing
Day 1 hike from trailhead in Rainforest Zone takes 2.5-3 hours to reach around 9,000 feet. Day 2 takes 6-7 hours gaining almost 3,000 feet.
Tip
Mount Kilimanjaro is located in Tanzania near the Kenya border, at the tail end of the 4,000-mile Great Rift Valley.
Food
Food quality is exceptional. Meals include fried fish with vegetables, fried chicken with French fries, and other substantial dishes prepared by expedition chefs.
Tip
First climbed in 1889 by Hans Meyer. Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa's tallest mountain and the world's tallest free-standing mountain at 19,341 feet.
