Useful for your trip
- Transport
- A new road through the Wakhan Corridor to China was built about a year ago and has only recently been opened to traffic. The road is unpaved, but passable by off-road vehicles.
- Avoid
- On the road to the Chinese border, there are constant rock collapses. Most sites need retaining walls. Be prepared for blockages and delays.
- Transport
- There are almost no gas stations on the route. Take a sufficient supply of fuel in canisters. There are no more than one or two cars along the way.
- Where to stay
- There are no guest houses outside the village. You can spend the night in a tent or in a car. At night, the temperature can drop below freezing even in summer.
- Timing
- At an altitude of 4100+ meters, altitude sickness (headache) is possible. Take pills from height. Climb smoothly.
- Tip
- There are Taliban border posts. When passing through checkpoints, you may need to have passports and car documents with you.
- Transport
- When overcoming fords and high climbs, move slowly and without acceleration, as on a flat road. Check the depth of the ford before passing.
- Tip
- The drone attracts the attention of border guards. Be careful with its use near posts and borders.
- Food
- Take food with you - noodles, canned food and other supplies. There are no shops or places to buy food along the route.
- Tip
- The highest border post in the world is located at an altitude of 4929 meters (Vakhchirdavan). The machine works without loss of traction, but the batteries charge more slowly.
- Timing
- At the height of the mountain, the sun is very warm, but a light wind instantly freezes. Take warm and protective clothing from wind and sun.
